The canton filter in particular is what actually triggers cantonal sources — mentioning a canton in your question is not enough. Filters are set before sending your prompt and refine the sources Silex consults. ### The canton filter Multi-select. It adds the cantonal sources relevant to the canton or cantons you select — Vaud, Geneva, and so on. All 26 cantons are covered. This is the single most important point in this article: if you mention a canton in your question without selecting it in the filter, Silex will rely on federal sources only. With the canton set in the filter, it searches both federal and cantonal material. If you feel cantonal case law is missing from your answers, this is almost always why. ### The legal domain filter Four categories: administrative, constitutional, criminal, civil. Silex covers every area of law even without a filter — the domain filter is a refinement aid, not a coverage limit. Use it when your question sits at the boundary between two domains and you want the analysis anchored in one of them. ### The "Additional data" filter Four options that broaden the search beyond statutory articles and case law: - Administration publications — social insurance, foreign nationals law, federal, cantonal and intercantonal tax circulars, FINMA, collective labour agreements, banking directives, European regulations, intellectual property. - ECHR — the full set of sources related to the European Court of Human Rights. - Web — draft legislation, official websites, legislative debates. These sources do not come from the Silex database, so enhanced verification is recommended. - Doctrine and legal commentary — at this stage, online commentaries available as open source, and doctrinal citations contained within court rulings. Broader coverage is planned; no date is communicated. ### Should I always turn everything on? No. Filters are there to focus the search. Turning on every additional source family for a straightforward federal law question adds noise rather than depth. Add ECHR when fundamental rights are engaged, administration publications for tax or regulatory questions, web when you need draft legislation or parliamentary material. ### Can I change the filters during a conversation? Yes, and the change applies from your next message onward. If you realise mid-conversation that you forgot the canton, set the filter and ask your question again — or edit your original question and relaunch it. ### I selected a canton but the answer still only cites federal law. That can be legitimate: on many questions the applicable law is exclusively federal, and there is no cantonal source to cite. Check the source bubbles to see what was actually used.
