# What is the Documents Comparison agent?

## The Documents Comparison agent analyzes an original and a modified legal document and produces a structured, severity-ranked report of every difference.

 

## What does the Documents Comparison agent do?

The Documents Comparison agent analyzes two versions of a legal document — an original and a modified version — and produces a detailed, structured report of all differences.

For each detected change, the report includes:

- The location in the document (page and section).
- The original and modified text shown side by side.
- A severity classification (**Critical**, **Important**, **Minor**, or **Formatting**).
- A plain-language explanation of the legal implications.

The result also includes a global narrative summary of the overall transformation between the two documents. The agent produces a structured preparatory report. The professional review, legal interpretation, and any decisions based on the comparison remain the responsibility of the qualified legal practitioner.

## How do I run a document comparison?

To compare two document versions using the Documents Comparison agent, follow these steps:

1. Open the Documents Comparison agent from the Silex dashboard.
2. Upload or select the **original** document (the baseline version).
3. Upload or select the **modified** document (the version containing changes).
4. Click **Run Comparison** to start the analysis.
5. Review the structured report once the agent has finished processing. The report lists each detected change with its location, severity classification, and a plain-language explanation of the legal implications.

## What types of changes does the agent detect?

The agent detects the following types of changes:

- Textual substitutions and reformulations.
- Additions and deletions of content.
- Changes to names, dates, amounts, and identifying information.
- Structural modifications by section.
- Formatting changes.

It also provides an indicative assessment of the potential legal impact of each change to support your own analysis.

## Can I compare documents that are not versions of the same text?

Technically yes, but the results will reflect all textual differences between the two documents, which may be very numerous and hard to interpret. The agent is designed for comparing two versions of the same document (for example, a contract before and after negotiation). Using it for unrelated documents is not recommended.

### The agent flagged a change as Critical but I believe it is not significant. Why?

The agent's severity classification is based on general legal impact heuristics. In some cases, a structurally significant change may be intentional and harmless in your specific context. Always apply your own professional judgment when reviewing the results. You can report miscategorizations via the in-app feedback tool or contact support@silex.legal.

## A change was not detected. What should I do?

The agent may occasionally miss subtle changes, particularly in complex or densely formatted documents. Always cross-reference the report with your own review for high-stakes documents. Report missed detections via the feedback tool or contact support@silex.legal to help improve accuracy.
