[Silex Chat](https://help.silex.legal/en/knowledge-base/general?hsLang=en#silex-chat) # What is the Silex chat and how does it work? ## Silex is an AI legal assistant for Swiss legal professionals: ask a question, get a structured, argued answer where every statement links back to its original source.  Silex is an AI-powered legal research assistant built for legal professionals in Switzerland. Submit a question or a case file, and Silex searches Swiss federal and cantonal law and case law, then builds a fully argued answer in which every statement is linked to its source. Three things define a Silex answer: - **Swiss scope** — federal law, cantonal law, and federal and cantonal case law. - **Structured legal analysis** — a full argued answer, not a list of search results. - **Full traceability** — every statement carries a clickable source.   ### What does a Silex answer look like? In the default **Classic** mode, a Silex answer follows the structure of a standard legal analysis: 1. Case understanding. 2. Applicable federal law. 3. Applicable cantonal law. 4. Relevant web sources. 5. Analysis. 6. Argued conclusion. Each statement is backed by a numbered **source bubble**. The answer ends with suggested follow-up questions to help you go deeper. Other answer modes are also available — see Answer modes for a full comparison. ### Which languages does the chat work in? Silex supports four languages: French, German, Italian, and English. Your answer is delivered in the language you used to ask. The sources Silex draws on are not limited to that language — a question asked in German may be answered using French or Italian sources when those are the most relevant. ### Does Silex remember my previous conversations? No. Each new conversation starts from a blank slate — the AI has no memory of earlier exchanges and cannot access other conversations. For confidentiality reasons, Silex does not train on your queries. The recommended practice is to open one conversation per case, or to use a dedicated folder to group all related conversations for a case. ### Can I use Silex on my phone or tablet? Yes, through your mobile browser. Silex is a responsive web application, so there is no separate native app to install. Your conversations are accessible across every device you are signed in to. ### Does Silex replace a lawyer's judgment? No. Silex is a **decision-support tool**, not a substitute for legal judgment. Source verification and final legal responsibility remain with you, the professional.
