A document takes the permissions of the folder you upload it to. Choose the location according to who should see it: - My personal space → me only (and the account holder, owner of the site) - A matter folder → the matter team - My office's shared folder → my whole office - The firm's shared folder → the whole organisation ### Can I upload first and move the document later? Avoid it. Upload directly to the right folder. Uploading to the root first and moving afterwards makes the document visible to everyone in the meantime — in SharePoint, and in Silex after the next synchronisation. ### How do I share a document with a colleague? On the file, click … then Share, type your colleague's name, choose the level with the pencil icon — Can edit or Can view — then click Send. Avoid Copy link with a link open to anyone: the gear icon next to it lets you restrict the link to the people you choose. A file shared this way gets its own permissions: if it is moved later, it keeps them. ### What happens when I move or copy a document? - A moved document takes the permissions of the destination folder — unless it had been shared individually, in which case it keeps its own. - A copy always takes the permissions of the destination folder. - So moving a note from your personal space to your office's shared folder makes it visible to the whole office. ### I created a "private" subfolder in a shared folder. Is it private? No. A subfolder you create inherits the permissions of the shared folder above it, so everyone who sees the shared folder sees it too. Naming it "private" changes nothing. Ask the account holder to restrict it. ### Why can I not restrict access to my document myself? Because members have edit rights, which do not include managing permissions. Only the account holder can restrict a folder.
