Choosing your response mode: Classic, Free, Drafting, Brainstorm
The four Silex response modes and when to use each one. Choosing the right mode is half the result.
The mode is selected from the dropdown in the input bar, before you send your question. It is the first reflex to acquire: choosing the right mode is already half the result.
Classic mode (default)
A structured answer that follows standard legal reasoning: understanding of the case, federal law, cantonal law, web sources, analysis, argued conclusion. Use it for a legal research question or a case analysis handled in a single pass.
Free mode
No imposed structure. Silex still takes the legal material into account, but you describe the output format you want yourself. Use it to analyse an attached document, to target a specific section of that document, to obtain a table or a list, or to chain several successive prompts.
Drafting mode
Assists the production of professional documents: contracts, formal notices, letters, legal agreements. Use it to draft a document — not to ask a long question, which belongs in Classic mode.
Brainstorm mode
Lets you dig into ideas and challenge arguments, with no imposed conclusion. Use it to explore a strategy, test angles of attack, or weigh several scenarios before deciding.
Which mode should I choose?
-
Legal research or case analysis in one pass → Classic
-
Analysis of an attached document, or a specific section of it → Free
-
An imposed output format: table, list, three-point note → Free
-
Drafting a contract, a formal notice, a letter → Drafting
-
Testing angles of attack before settling a strategy → Brainstorm
Does the mode apply to the whole conversation?
A mode change applies from your next message onward. Answers already generated are unaffected. This is genuinely useful: you can run your legal research in Classic mode, then switch to Drafting mode to have the result turned into an email or a letter, all within the same conversation.
Why does my answer stop following the Classic structure after a few messages?
That is expected. The Classic structure applies mainly to the first message of a new conversation. After that, the exchange naturally loosens up into a normal back-and-forth.
What do I get at the end of Drafting mode?
The drafted text appears in the chat like any other answer. You can copy it or download it as Word or PDF from the action bar below the answer, then finish it in your own editor.
