Search and query your documents with Silo
Attach files or folders from your connected SharePoint directly in the Silex chat, and get answers with clickable citations back to your original documents.
Before you begin: Silo must be connected to your Silex account. If you haven't done this yet, see Connecting Silo.
Silo is Silex's document-grounding feature that lets you attach your own files to a conversation so answers are based on your documents.
Once Silo is connected, you can attach your own documents to any Silex conversation.
Attaching documents to a question
Use the + button in the chat input. You will see three options:
- Add files — upload a file directly Supported formats include PDF, DOCX, XLSX, and TXT.
- Add from SharePoint — browse your connected SharePoint (Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online)
- Add from SharePoint by Silex — browse your Silex-provisioned storage
A file and folder picker lets you select exactly what to include, with checkboxes for both folders and individual files.
Narrowing the search scope
You do not have to search your entire document library. When attaching from SharePoint, you can select a specific folder — "Case Dupont", for instance — or even a single document, narrowing the search to just that case or matter.
What an answer looks like
Silo answers follow the same structured format as every other Silex response:
- Response summary
- Key findings, with clickable citations to your documents
- Recommended actions
- References and sources used, listing every document analysed — both your own files and any Silex legal sources such as statutes, regulations, or case law
Hover over any citation to see a preview snippet and an Access the source link that takes you back to the original file or SharePoint URL.
Note: You must have permission to access the original file or SharePoint location for the link to work.
